DAS FLUFF: ANXIETY DREAMS

A delectable invitation to the realm of temptation, DAS FLÜFF is the corporeal manifestation of London-born artist Dawn Lintern’s musical machinations, with influences ranging from Bowie to Grace Jones via NIN. Joined by New York guitarist Joe Dochtermann and electro maestro Christian Ruland from Berlin, composer and vocalist Dawn Lintern creates a monster sound with theatrical performances that unsettle and excite the listener.

The combination of Das Fluff’s trademark electronics, heavy guitars and blade-like verse elicits a filthy post-punk sound, arousing a sense of unease in the belly while activating the adrenaline rush of dance or flight. Allowing the ominous depths of her psyche to become flesh, DAS FLÜFF is the feral spawn of Dawn Lintern, an artist with an imposing on-stage presence.

Dressed for excess with eccentric costumes and a formidable rock stance, the band’s live performance is a captivating phantasmagoria lit by images projected onto the stage and worshipped by a rhythm-enslaved audience who just wanna be their dog. Flanked by the driving rock guitar of Joe Dochtermann and live manipulated samples from Christian Ruland, Dawn Lintern’s vocals are as hypnotic as a caress before a spank, as compelling as a growl becoming a roar.

DAS FLÜFF’s fourth studio album, Anxiety Dreams, 'treads a whole new plateau of creative sorcery' (The Ringmaster Review) taking the band’s sonorous voyage down a sinister path to a place where hungry wolves lie in wait. Bursting through the fourth wall, the first track Millennial lures the listener in with a false sense of security: its pulsing tempo and caustic lyrics see Dawn take aim at today’s superficiality and obsession with the self.

The album’s title track Anxiety Dreams turns the finger of accusation from society to herself: 'I'm surrounded by self-seekers/ Self-lovers, big talkers/ Dreamers, fakers/ Attention-winners/ Would-be sinners/ Am I one of them/ Do I fit in?' – a move that unites the listener and band in a common stream of consciousness.

With a sneer of contempt through bared teeth, Bleed Me Dry, Animal and Obey press sensuously on society’s collective bruises.

The 'predacious almost vaudeville like antics' (ibid) of Freaks maintains the sultry vibe, while Ringmaster and The Cure reveal a painfully soft vulnerability that allows for reflection and momentary catharsis before the Rise of positivity and the opium embrace of the apocalyptic dance of death that is Supervolcano.
